Things Luc says at 3 yrs, 4 mos that I hope I remember

3 years old has not been the best year for me and Luc so far. I hate that I have been so impatient with him. Sometimes I really feel like the biggest failure as a mom for Luc. I feel like I tell him "No, I'm busy" "Stop it Luc" "Go play" "Get out of the kitchen"...all the time. I don't think I spend enough fun time with him...or Evan.

I love his imagination right now. I really love to sit back and listen or watch him play. He is also very sweet and loving sometimes. Luc really is the most fun kid I know. I have difficulty with his hyperness and aggression. When he gets tired, it is important to get him in bed quickly. He can get out of control.

Okay so here are my top favorite things that Luc says right now.

"busy" = "tired" When he has to walk up the stairs to our apartment, especially after playing hard at the playground or swimming or after doing anything really active: "I'm busy; I'm not tired, I'm just busy"

"dong" = "gone"  "Mama, is

"anyfing" = "nothing"   Me: "Luc what do you have in your mouth". Luc: "Anyfing Mama. I have anyfing in my mouf"

"dukie" = "cookie" I don't know about this one. He messes up the vowel and all.

You would think a speech pathologist would have a child with perfect speech. Luc has quite a few articulation errors still but I have to admit some a really cute. Most are age appropriate errors. His problem is that he has trouble with most of the "age appropriate" errors. We have been working on the "k" and "g" occasionally. I guess I should probably work on it a little more. Anyway, here are some of his substitutions.

/k, g/ in some words are still /t, d/ - We have been working on this one though.
/l/ is /w/ which is unfortunate since his name is Luc...or should I say "Wuc"....which used to be "Wut"
some /r/ are /w/
"ch" and "j" are /d/
"th" sounds are /f/

Another speech problem we are having is fluency. Luc stutters...a lot at times. I am hoping this is developmental. Sometimes when kids have a high language skills, they have difficulty organizing their thoughts into words. That's what I hope is going on. This boy does have great language skills. I love that he uses big words like "actually", "definitely", "annoying", "beautiful", "amazing" and in the appropriate context. And I love that he doesn't understand how to the words "busy" and "anything".

Luc loves to make up songs, "read" stories to his stuffed animals and occasionally to Evan, and make up stories. Of course he also loves anything active...especially if it is outside.

Evan at 13 months

I love this boy. Yes, he does wear me out completely but I love him. He is full of energy, very curious, and super silly. He loves to do whatever Luc is doing. He loves to do things to make us laugh. He gives us tons of hugs and kisses randomly throughout the day. He loves his bed when he is tired. Unfortunately, he likes to wake up early too (6:30-7).

Right now Evan loves:
-walking backwards
-jumping (though his feet don't come off the floor)
-dancing
-screaming (very high pitched shrill squeal)
-kicking balls around the house
-eating (this child eats more than I do)
-playing in the water
-doing anything outside
-eating popsicle or even just ice
-reading books

Evan tries to imitate almost any single word we say. He only has a few consonants so it is sometimes really hard to understand what he wants. On a regular basis he uses the words:
"bup" = cup, jump, up, help, rock
"muh" = more, milk
"dut" = dirt (funny boy...this was one of his first words), shirt, outside, Luc
"boop" = book
"wa-wa" = water
"wuh" = waffle
"seez" = cheese
"nat" = snack
"bubu" = berries, baby, bubbles
"meh-meh" = melon
"dit" = sit, kick
"es" = yes
"buh" - blow
"ba" = ball

I probably only understand 50% or maybe even less of what Evan tells me. He uses the word "bup" for a lot of his words. If I don't understand Evan, he will try to show me what he is trying to say. He has taken me to the refrigerator and showed me milk. One day, he kept telling me "dut" over and over. I had no idea what he wanted. He went to his room and brought me a t-shirt out of his dresser. I am really amazed at how much Evan understands. He follows directions very well. He will throw trash away, find his cup, get his shoes, and other short directions like this. Today I was talking with a lady at the playground. She was telling me that my boys could play with the toy trucks that were in her stroller. I thought Evan was minding his own business playing but he immediately walked right over there, dug around in the bottom of this ladies stroller and found the trucks.

A day at the beach

I wish we could have spent more time at the beach. We plan to in August though. The boys had so much fun.
Snack before naptime
I think this kid makes a good beach bum
Luc asked me to dig a "huge hole"...
...then asked me to "burrow" him
Shouldn't this be some advertisement or something?

These are only a couple of the many pictures it took to get a decent picture of me and the boys.

Click on this picture to enlarge it. Evan's face is priceless. I think I found my beach buddy.

Oh beautiful white sandy beach, I can't wait to see you again very soon!

Crab hunting

We got to the beach just in time to go crab hunting. We didn't see any crabs though.
Evan loved the sand.

Pets

Bad hair day? That's an understatement.
Evan loved the horses from a distance. Not so much up close.
This is Pokey. Da gave her to us when I was 14. Her mom died during delivery so we bottle raised her. She ran around our yard just like our dogs. She chased cars down the driveway. She even nursed on the dog when the dog had puppies. Yes, I do have proof too. Anyway, here she is. I don't know how much longer she'll be around but she's a good pet. She still always comes when we call her name and she loves attention. Isn't she cute?
And this is Sassy. I was taking pictures of her one eye. She recently lost her eye in a car accident. Poor Sassy was in another accident the day after I took pictures of her but she didn't make it.

Travel drama and fun

The boys and I headed home a couple of weeks ago while Brian was traveling. Our trip started with a frustrating trip to the airport but it ended up working well. We arrived at the airport Saturday morning for our 6:50 am flight to find out that it was cancelled. We had been rescheduled for the 10:45 flight. We waited, played, and annoyed other travelers. Just before boarding time they announced that they needed some travelers to give up their seats because the plane was overbooked. I gave up our seats and they rebooked us for the next morning. It worked out well for us because Luc and I each got $400 delta voucher, 5000 frequent flyer miles added to our account, and they changed my arrival to Montgomery, AL rather than Pensacola, FL (which is much further away from my parents but it was cheapest when I booked our flight).

Anyway, it did change family plans. I was only able to spend about half a day with my brothers and sister. David, who was suppose to be out of town, had changed his plans so that he could spend some time with his favorite sister and nephews. Thank you David! I'm still sorry that we got there a day late.

We were pretty exhausted by the time we got home but we did have some fun down at the pond.

Aunt Allison and soon-to-be Uncle John were able to visit for the day too.
I got to spend a little bit of time with my oldest boys.

Luc caught a ginormous fish.

Will and Sam brought a really cool sprinkler.

More celebrating

We had a couple of friends over for more cake and to celebrate Evan's first birthday and our number 1 Daddy's birthday!

"Wow, all these sweets. I wish I had turned one long ago."

This is what I got when I asked Dylan to smile.

LATE - Happy Birthday Evan!

 This is almost a month late but I still can't believe this little man is one year old.
I had to work on Evan's birthday so we just had a family celebration at home that evening. Luc picked out a gift for Evan and even wrapped it himself. So sweet!
It was very difficult to let Evan enjoy his big gift from Mama and Daddy though.

Evan loves his lawn mower.

"Mom, tell him to give it back now!"
This is his puny little cake on his birthday.
But I guess it tasted good.
